A. Herbs

  • Height: Very short (usually less than 1 meter).
  • Stem: Soft, green, and tender (easy to bend without breaking).
  • Branching: They usually do not have many branches.

    A. Types of Roots

  • Taproot System:
  • * Has one main thick root (called the taproot) growing deep into the soil.

    * Smaller side roots grow out from this main root; these are called lateral roots.

    * *Examples:* Carrot, Radish, Mustard, Mango, Bean.

  • Fibrous Root System:
  • * Has no single main root.

    * Instead, a bunch or cluster of thin, thread-like roots of similar size grow directly from the base of the stem.

    A. Parts of a Typical Flower

    #### 1. Sepals

  • The green, leaf-like outer structures at the base of a flower.
  • Function: Protect the flower when it is still a small bud.

  • Function: Attract insects, bees, and birds for pollination.
